Chaotic start to India's first Red Bull Flugtag

Image
Red Bull Flugtag, Bangalore, India (photo - Jim Ankan Deka) Not many in India have heard about Red Bull, let alone the famous Flugtag event. So, the event got king-size media attention when Red Bull first announced about it which was to be held in Bangalore. I was invited to the event by one of the organizers of the India's First Red Bull Flugtag. It was held at Sankey Tank, Bangalore - one of the last surviving lakes of Bangalore. I was little surprised with the decision of the Bangalore govt for giving permission for such an event to be conducted at a place like this. Anyway, curiosity took over and I with two of my colleagues from Music Malt thought of visiting the place and covering the event for International Press Association. It was total chaos! Although the crowd was doing fine, the chaos was seen among the crew members, bouncers and managers (seemed to be) mainly. As we went past the people and got near the entrance, there were few bouncers and guards who had lit...

Sunday Soul Sante - fun, food and music! (event photography)

Image
I had not much clue about an event like this in Bangalore until my friend Antara Baruah gave me a call and told me about it. Later as I was checking out, Asha Rao, founder of Sunday Soul Sante gave me a call and invited me for the event. There was food, music, beverages and for the females specially - a flea market. The Sunday Soul Sante 2013 had almost everything to offer. Apart from damosels in fine-looking garments appearing totally appealing and attractive, the event also witnessed live music by the band Solder and Avril Quadros with her band Hammer N Thong and a fashion show by Prasad Bidapa Associates . Below are few photos of the event. Bhoga Nandeeshwara - the 1000 year old temple (travel photography)

Image
Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple is a 1000 year old temple. The original temple, identified as one of the oldest temples of Karnataka, dates back to the 9th century A.D. The temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. There are three temples within the temple complex - Arunachaleswara, Uma Maheshwara and Bhoga Nandeeshwara. The other portion of the temple houses a large indoor water pond, called Sringeri Teertha and has rock cut steps on which 100,000 lamps are lit thrice a year on main festival days like Deepavali. Below are few pics of the temple. Deforestation in Bangalore, India (environmental photography project)

Image
It takes more than a decade for a tree to bloom in full. Then it helps prevent soil erosion and starts combating the greenhouse effect, cleaning the air, cooling the streets, conserving energy and many more. In-fact studies have shown that patients with views of trees out their windows heal faster. Trees can bring peace and unity. ( Click Here to read the benefits of a tree ) But it takes just couple of hours to bring it down. And through this project (environmental photography), I would be sharing the man-created devastation and deforestation around the neighborhoods of India. Recently a 50-60 years old tree was cut down in Koramangala, Bangalore, to accommodate the newly built power lines and buildings. This was the last big tree on that road. Every morning for more than three years I would wake up to the bird chirping and cool breeze provided by the tree. And from the second floor of my building the tree would provide a grandeur backdrop as it hides the ugly concrete jungle. ...

Bangalore neighborhoods - part 1 (street photography)

Bangalore (Bengaluru) is not my birth place. Nor it's where I studied. I came here looking for a job in 2006. Since then, more I explored, though I didn't understand the language, I somehow managed to understand the city a bit. There are high-rise edifices with high living standards and low-rise shanties marked by poverty and inferior living conditions. I have been trying to capture the beauty, the happiness, griefs and brokenheartednesses of the metropolis. Bangalore through my eyes !
